Speaker inaugurates International Conference on Urban Health
24 May 2015, Nirapad News: Speaker of the parliament and chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today inaugurated the 12th International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH 2015) to exchange ideas and opinions among the urban health professionals at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Emphasizing the importance of safe environment to reduce the transmission of health care associated infections, the Speaker said, “Government is working effortlessly to provide health care services at the door-step of every people.”
She said the government has laid importance on ensuring urban health services and achieving the MDGs.
Secretary of health and family welfare ministry Syed Manjurul Islam, Ambassador of Netherlands Gerben S De Jong and ambassador of Sweden Johan Fruell also spoke among others.
“The government is also paying special attention to maternal health so that a healthy mother can deliver a healthy child to build a healthy nation,” said the Speaker.
ICUH 2015 is the first International Conference on Urban Health in the country which is emphasizing the inclusion of urban health priorities in the post-2015 development agenda.
Scientists, practitioners, policy makers and community organizations from more than 60 countries are participating in the conference to exchange ideas and advance research and practice that promote the health of individuals who are in the urban regions and breaking down socio-economic barriers to urban health access.
A total of six plenary sessions, 32 breakout sessions, more than 20 special sessions will be held at the conference where 180 key note papers on different issues will be presented.
