The Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees of 2020-2021 and students of class 5 will have to attend their classes regularly after reopening the schools and colleges.

The government has decided to reopen schools and colleges across the country from September 12 after a long break due to the spread of deadly coronavirus.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni made the announcement on Sunday following an inter-ministerial meeting held in the conference room of the Cabinet Division at Secretariat in Dhaka.

The government shut the educational institutions on March 17 last year after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8.

After the meeting, Dipu Moni said teaching in classroom will be started in all educational institutions from September 12.

She further said, “In the beginning, those who will sit for SSC and HSC exams in 2020-2021 will have to come to school every day. Students of class 5 will also come to class every day.”

Replying to a question, Dipu Moni said the preparations to hold JSC, JDC and all the final exams will be taken in advance.

Dipu Moni said, “Classes will be held for nfour to five hours on the first day of September 12. The number of classes will gradually increase. Each institution has to fill the checklist and send it to the Ministry of Education.”

If there is a risk of Covid-19 infection by random sampling, the decision may be taken to close that concerned institution, she added.

The Education Minister said, “Students must be lined up to enter the school. The school will not have any assembly at present. However, physical activity or sports will continue so that they can be in a good position physically and mentally.”
