Stern actions against terrorists’ acts, trial of Abhijit killing emphasized.

17 March 2015, Nirapad News: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs Advocate Anisul Haq today emphasized stern actions against subversive acts and terrorist activities including trial of Abhijit killing.

He laid this emphasis at a discussion titled ‘Abhijit murder, ongoing terrorism and civil society’s responsibility’ at WBA auditorium in the city organized by Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.

After the killing of the country’s founding father, the law minister regretted, culture of legal immunity had started but the present government has already come out from such mal-culture. “Every day, he said, we are fighting against such malpractices”.

“No one is above the law. Anybody who breaks the law will not be spared and should be brought to justice,” Anisul Huq asserted.

Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haq spoke as the chief discussant while Justice Amirul Islam was in the chair.

The function was addressed, among others, by Professor Ajoy Roy, father of slain writer Abhijit Roy, Advocate Sultana Kamal, Professor Muntasir Mamoon and journalist Harron Habib. Acting president of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Journalist Shahriar Kabir gave the welcome address.

Justice ABM Khairul Haq laid emphasis on reform and training in police force, and ensures its members accountability by maintaining proper monitoring.

Abhijit’s father Ajoy Roy said secular democratic state should be established to come out from the spell of terrorism.

Shahriar Kabir said Humayun Azad and Abhijit were attacked at the same place, adjacent to the TSC on Dhaka university campus, and demanded to name the TSC intersection as ‘Humayun Azad-Abhijit Chhattar’ and roadway from TSC to BUET as ‘Humaun Azad and Abhijit Sarak’.

Later, journalist Jibon Ahmed was accorded for taking Abhijit-Bonna to the hospital soon after the tragic incident.
