Sufi singer, Yousuf Khan performs in Dhaka
11 February 2015, Nirapad News: Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre organised an evening of Qawwali by Yousuf Khan Nizami and his troupe at the New Chancery Complex, Baridhara in the city.
Yousuf Khan Nizami is a talented singer in Sufi style singing as well as modern Qawwali song. He belongs to famous Sikandarabad Gharana which includes various legendary singers like Ustad Qudratullah Khan Sahab and Ustad Kifayatullah Khan Sahab. He has performed in several countries such as Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Mauritius, South Africa, England, Spain, Holland etc.
Qawwali is a form of devotional singing bifurcated from Khayaal singing, and is rooted in the mystical tradition of the Sufism where music is a powerful spiritual realization. A number of singers of various traditional Gharana excelled in the Qawwali singing which has become a part of the strong musical tradition of India. Yousuf Khan Nizami belongs to the same sect of Qawwali singers.
