Sugarcane crushing begins in Panchagarh
20 December 2015, Nirapad News: Panchagarh Sugar Mill has started crushing of sugarcane for the fiscal year 2015-16.
Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industry Corporation AKM Delwer Hossain formally inaugurated the crushing by throwing sugarcane in the machine on Friday.
After the inaugural function a discussion meeting was held there. District Administrator Adv Abu Bakkar Siddik addressed function as chief guest. Sadar upazila chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat was present as special guest.
Sugar mill labour union President Amirul Islam, sugarcane farmer Soma Ali and Mizanur Rahman spoke on the occasion.
Panchagarh sugar mill Management director SM Abdur Rashid presided over the function.
The mill sources said that 60,000 metric tons of sugarcane would be crushed this season with the production target of 4,000 metric tons of sugar.
The source also said that 4,750 acres of land put under sugarcane cultivation in the district and the mill will purchase sugarcane directly from the farmers through 29 sub-centers. Per mound of sugarcane would be parched at Taka 110.
