Supreme Court asks Janakantha to explain by Sunday
03 August 2015, Nirapad News: The Supreme Court asked Bangla daily ‘Dainik Janakantha’ editor Atiquallah Khan Masud and executive editor Swadesh Roy to explain before it by Sunday (August 9) regarding an article published in the daily.
In response to summon, the duo appeared before the appellate division of the apex court Monday morning and sought three-month time for placing their explanation.
A four-member appellate division bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha granted the one-week time, after hearing time petition.
Earlier on July 29, the appellate division bench had summoned them asking to appear before it on August 3 and explain regarding an article published in the daily mentioning a meeting between judges and family members of death row convict war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury..
On July 16, the daily published an article that raised questions how the family members of convicted war criminal met Supreme Court’s judges.
The article written by Swadesh Roy, headlined ‘Activities of SQ family: Escape Route Narrowed’.
After upholding the death penalty of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, a four-member Appellate Division bench, led by the Chief Justice, issued the order asking ‘Janakantha’ editor and its executive editor to explain about it.
