Supreme Court orders freedom fighter quota in medical college admissions to be 5%
12 February 2015, Nirapad News: The Appellate Division (AD) of Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the verdict of the High Court that fixed 5 percent freedom fighter quota in all medical college admissions.
A division bench of the AD led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after rejecting a leave to appeal petition filed by the state.
The HC on March 6 last year in an order kept 5 percent quota for the children and grand children of the freedom fighters in the medical college admission.
Medical college authorities have kept only 2 percent freedom fighter quota which was also ignored in admission, said defence lawyer Advocate Sikder Mokbul Haque.
The leave to appeal petition was filed to increase freedom fighter quota in the medical college admission, he added.
