Tazreen factory owner sent to Jail
Chittagong, 14 December 2014, Nirapad News: Court in Chittagong, today, sent Delwar Hossain owner of ready-made garments factory Tazreen Fashions to jail rejecting his bail prayer in a fraud case. Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mashfiqul Islam passed the order when Delwar surrendered before the court seeking bail this afternoon.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan told that the formalities of sending Delwar to jail was going on till filing of this report at 5pm. The court adjourned its proceedings till December 26, he said.
According to the case document, Tazreen Fashion purchased accessories worth Tk34.74 lakh KDS Accessories Limited in 2010-11 fiscal years while Tazreen Fashion did not pay the due in the last four years. As Tazreen fashion owner harassed KDS Accessories Limited in different ways, KDS Group Legal Assets Department Assistant Manager Advocate Shimul Sen lodged a case before the court under sections 406 and 420 of Criminal Procedure Code for embezzling Tk 4.44 million (44,43,000) through fraudulence on December 22, 2013.
On July 24, a High Court bench comprising of Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice M Nazrul Islam Talukder granted bail to Delwar in the case filed over the devastating fire at Tazreen Fashions Ltd. At least 112 people were killed and over 200 others suffered injury in the devastating fire that raged through the Tazreen Fashions in Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka city on November 24, 2012. Delwar was in a four-week bail from the High Court (HC) in the case and while the HC ordered him to surrender before the lower court after completion of the bail period however, he did not surrender. The court summoned Delwar repeatedly but he surrendered before the court today when the court sent him to jail after the hearing session.
