Teachers’ demo ,Academic activities hampered at colleges, varsities
10 Septembar 2015, Nirapad News: Alongside public university teachers, teachers of government colleges are staging demonstration over the new pay scale, hampering academic activities at public educational institutions.
Due to work abstention of teachers, as many as 305 government colleges and 37 public universities have come to a standstill.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the eighth pay scale, college teachers and employees of different departments under the education ministry have declared holding protest programs.
BCS General Education Association secretary general IK Selim Ullah Khandakar said the protest programs have started this morning at 270 government colleges, three Alia Madrasas, 14 teachers training colleges and 16 commercial colleges.
Classes and examinations have remained suspended at government colleges due to teachers’ work abstention since the morning, said a Dhaka College teacher.
The teachers’ leader said as selection grade has been eliminated, professors will retire at grade four. So, higher posts will be given to officers from other cadres. It is discrimination.
‘It is not acceptable in any way’ Selim Ullah added.
Citing it is their primary demonstration, he further said a meeting of education cadre officers has been convened on Friday to fix next program.
On the other hand, teachers of 37 public universities are staging demonstration over pay scale issue. They also gave ultimatum to the finance minister AMA Muhith to seek apology for his remark on their movement.
Students’ demo at private universities
Moreover, thousands of students of private universities are staging demonstration in four points of the capital city and different places across the country on Thursday protesting imposition of VAT on tuition fees and attack on East West University students.
Protests were staged at 10:00am in front of East West University, at House Building intersection and Bashundhara Gate at 11:00am and, at Dhanmondi 27 and Banani at 12:00pm.
Besides, students are protesting the VAT imposition staging demonstration at different areas of Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Chittagong and Sylhet.
