‘This statement is fake and fabricated’ : BNP claims
12 February 2015, Nirapad News: The BNP Chairperson’s office has dismissed a statement which is apparently signed by one of the party’s joint secretaries general which had announced withdrawal of the ongoing nationwide shutdown amid a transport blockade.
Khaleda Zia’s media wing member Khairul Kabir Khan on Wednesday night told to the press that, “This is not a statement from the BNP, this is fake and fabricated.”
After Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was arrested amid the blockade that started on Jan 5, the BNP has been announcing party programmes through statements signed by another Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed. The statement sent to the media on Wednesday on the party’s official letterhead also had Ahmed’s signature.
It said the BNP as a responsible political party would not be enforcing the nationwide shutdown on the days of the SSC exams considering the concerns of thousands of students and their parents. BNP chief Khaleda Zia had approved the decision, the statement added.
Due to the nonstop countrywide blockade and recent shutdowns, the education ministry had to reschedule the tests for the past several days.
Last week, unconfirmed statements purportedly signed by Salahuddin Ahmed, extending the BNP’s shutdown, had been circulated in the media. But none from the party or its allies spoke to the media about these statements.
