Tk 40,000-50,000 for bypass surgery at DMCH: Zahid Maleque
Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said a cardiac patient can now undergo bypass surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at a cost of Tk 40,000-50,000.
“A Taka 4-5 lakh is being spent for a bypass surgery at a private hospital in the country while the cost is much higher at a hospital abroad. But Taka 40,000-50,000 will be spent for a bypass surgery at DMCH as a separate cardiac unit has been opened here,” he said.
Zahid was addressing the inaugural function of the ‘Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery’ department at the hospital.
The Awami League government has always attached utmost importance to the quality health care services considering it as one of the basic rights of the people, he said.
Highlighting the steps taken by the government for development of the country’s health sector, the health minister said the present government has formulated a time-befitting national health policy.
DMCH Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin presided over the function while Health Services Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary-in-Charge Shaikh Yusuf Harun and Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Dr Abul Kalam Azad were present, among others.
