Austria’s capital is famous for its cultural events, imperial sights, coffee houses, cosy wine taverns, and the very special Viennese charm. It’s a city that charms and seduces more the longer you stay. Whether for fast-track travel or slow-paced sightseeing, and regardless of how many times you’ve been before, there’s a seemingly never-ending wealth of things to do and see throughout the year. It’s also both culturally and musically one of the richest cities in the world.
Vienna is situated in the North-East of Austria and lies on the banks of the majestic Danube river. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Wachau region, the Vienna woods (‘Wiener Wald’) and with numerous green expanses and parks Vienna is an exceptionally agreeable city.
Best time to visit
With a busy cultural calender and numerous sights Vienna is a year-round destination. Some institutions like the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Spanish Riding School and some theater houses take a summer break but summer specific events like open air cinemas and festivals compensate for this.
Places to visit
Visit Empress Sisi’s former summer residence. This baroque complex contains an enchanting park, the Palm House, the Gloriette and a zoo. Spend an entire day at Schönbrunn: visit the show rooms with a “Grand Tour with Audio Guide,” admire the splendid Bergl Rooms, and stroll through the “Labyrinth.”
The famous HOFBURG PALACE was the Hasburgers Winter Residence and Schönbrunn Palace was their summer.
The famous Vienna zoo was founded in 1752, which makes it the oldest zoo in the world.
Butterfly house – Schmetterlinghaus
The tropical butterfly house is located in the centre of the
city just 200 meters from the opera building. In natural rain
forest environment you can see and be amazed by hundreds
of live, free-flying tropical butterflies.
Albertina Museum & Gallery
Albertina houses one of the largest graphic art collections in
the world with cca 44000 drawings and 1 milion old master
prints (Leonardo da Vinci, Michalangelo, Raffael, Rubens,
Rembrandt, Dürer) + modern graphic works. Albertina is located
in the centre of the city just 100 meters from the opera building.
