Transport owners threaten strike in Khagrachari
Nirapad News : Wednesday transport owners and workers association threatened an indefinite strike in the district from Sunday if their three-point demand was not met by Saturday.
The announcement came at a press conference held at the association’s district office with its President SM Shafi, also joint-secretary of the unit of Awami League in the chair.
At the press conference, SM Shafi alleged that people loyal to United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and PCJSS (MN Larma faction) have been continuing their criminal activities including extortion due to the negligence and backing by some dishonest police personnel.
Blaming the law enforcers, Shafi added that none of the criminals or extortionists accused in 21 cases filed with different police stations of the district in the last one year.
Their demands include ensuring safety of their lives and properties, a stop on plying of state-owned BRTC buses on inter-district routes and a permanent bus stand in Chittagong metropolitan area for the northern districts buses.
Among others, Younus Bhuiyan, member secretary of the association, and members Nasir Uddin and Badsha Mia were present.
