Tutul files case for attempted murder
03 November 2015,Nirapad News: Publisher Ahmedur Rashid Chowdhury Tutul has opened a case for attempted murder with police over Saturday’s attack in his office that left him and two others injured. A relative of Tutul submitted the case document on behalf of him to Mohammadpur Police Station on Monday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said. Unknown assailants barged into the office of publishing house ‘Suddhaswar’ at around 2:30pm on Saturday. They hacked Tutul, writer Ranadipam Basu and blogger Tarek Rahim with sharp weapons.
The three are being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
DMCH authorities said conditions of Tutul and Basu were improving, but Tarek’s was ‘still not good’. Barely three hours after the attack, publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan was found murdered at Dhaka’s Shahbagh.
Dipan, who ran publishing house ‘Jagriti Prokashony’, was hacked to death in his office at the Aziz Supermarket— a hub for writers and publishers in Dhaka.
His wife started a case with the Shahbagh police over the incident on Monday.
Dipan and Tutul both were close to slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy and published his titles.
Secular writer Roy was killed in February this year in Dhaka after machete-wielding assailants hacked him in the head and shoulders.
Police are yet to make any breakthrough in the two incidents, but suspect banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team behind it,
