Two-day SCBA polls begin tomorrow

Elections to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) executive committee 2015-16 will begin tomorrow

14 March 2015, Nirapad News: Elections to the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) executive committee 2015-16 will begin tomorrow with the participation of 31 candidates against 14 posts.

Voting will take place on the Supreme Court premises from 10 am to 5 pm with break for an hour. The number of voters this year is 4,362.

SCBA Superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das told the press that all preparations have already been completed for the polls. The schedule for SCBA polls was announced on February 16.

Four candidates are contesting for the post of president, five for two posts of vice-president, two for the post of secretary post, two for the post of treasurer, four for the post of assistant secretary and 14 for seven member posts.

A sub-committee led by Advocate Harunur Rashid is conducting the election.

Two separate panels are contesting in SCBA election. Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad known as ‘white panel’ is supported by pro-Awami League and like-minded party lawyers and Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya known as ‘blue panel’ is backed by pro-BNP-Jamaat and like-minded party lawyers.

Advocate Mohammad Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Mamtazuddin Ahmed (Mehedi) are leading the blue panel as president and secretary candidates while Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin (Khokan) are leading the blue panel.

Besides, Advocate Dr. Yunus Ali Akanda and Advocate M. Obaidul Haq Pirjada are contesting for the post of president as independent candidates.

Advocate Nazrul Islam is also contesting as an independent candidate for the post of vice-president. In the past, the main contest took place between the white panel and the blue panel.

Candidates of both panels are distributing leaflets and canvassing in the Supreme Court Bar Bhaban and hall room and chambers of the lawyers.
