Two ministers asked to appear again March 20
15 March 2016, Nirapad News: In response to summon order issued by the Supreme Court, Liberation War affairs minister Mozzamel Huq appeared before it for his derogatory comment about chief justice and sub-judice matter.
When the apex court asked Food Minister Qamrul Islam’s lawyer Abdul Baset Mazumder about his client’s absence in the court, he replied that the minister has been staying in aboard.
Then, the SC ordered the two ministers to appear before it on Mach 20 (Sunday).
Barrister Rafiq-ul-Haque moved for the liberation war affairs minister.
Earlier on Monday, Qamrul Islam sought unconditional apology for his derogatory comment about chief justice and sub-judice matter in reply to a contempt rule.
Besides, he filed a petition seeking more time to appear before the apex court as per its summon order.
On March 8, a nine-member appeal bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha also ordered the liberation war minister AKM Mozammel Huq to appear before it by March 15.
The SC also issued a rule asking them to explain on March 14 why ‘they should not be prosecuted for their contemptuous comment’.
Speaking at a discussion held on March 5 in city, organized by ‘Ekattarer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee’, Qamrul Islam demanded retrial of Mir Quasem Appeal hearing in the SC bench excluding the Chief Justice.
He also said that the Chief Justice’s remarks in open court during a recent hearing of Mir Quasem Ali’s appeal against his death sentence made it certain that there was no reason to sentence the accused to death.
At the program, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq said, “A crisis has been created over the appeal verdict of Mir Qausem Ali. It’s a matter of sorrow that the Chief Justice created the crisis”.
