UK to create two ‘Strike Brigades’ to face IS
23 November 2015, Nirapad News: The UK Prime Minister will announce the creation of two rapid-reaction ‘strike brigades’ to deal with the threat of Islamic State and his Government’s commitment to buying new defence equipment when he presents the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) in the Commons later.
After a widely criticised review in 2010 that savaged the military and left Britain’s Armed Forces without vital capabilities, ministers hope this paper, which sets out the UK’s defence and security priorities for the next five years, will signal the start of the re-building process.
Mr Cameron, who will return to Parliament later in the week to make the case for airstrikes against IS in Syria, said the strategy was based around “an understanding that we cannot choose between conventional defences against state-based threats and the need to counter threats that do not recognise national borders”.
“Today we face both and we must respond to both,” he wrote in the foreword to the SDSR.
