UN body to review BD’s child rights situation
07 Septembar 2015, Nirapad News: The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is meeting in Geneva from September 14 to 2 October to review children’s rights in a number of countries, including Bangladesh.
Other countries are Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Madagascar, Poland, Timor Leste, and United Arab Emirates, according to a message received here on Monday from Geneva.
The Committee, composed of 18 independent experts, monitors how States that have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) are complying with its obligations.
The Committee also reviews how States are implementing two optional protocols to the Convention – one on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC) and one on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC).
The States that are parties to the Convention and the Optional Protocols must submit regular written reports to the Committee. During the meetings in Geneva, Committee members will hold question-answer sessions with the respective government delegations.
The session dates are United Arab Emirates CRC (14-15 Sep); Bangladesh CRC (15-16 Sep); Kazakhstan CRC (16-17 Sep); Poland CRC (18 Sep); Brazil CRC, OPAC (21-22 Sep); Chile CRC (24 Sep); Timor Leste CRC (25 Sep); Madagascar OPSC, OPAC (28 Sep); Cuba OPSC, OPAC (29 Sep).
