Vessel carrying 100 tons of coal sinks in Bay of Bengal

13 January 2017, Nirapad News: A cargo vessel with 100 tons of coal capsized near Fairway Buoy in Mongla in the Bay of Bengal on Friday, reports news agency UNB.

Abdur Rahman Biswas, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mongla Police Station, said the cargo vessel ‘MV Icegati’ sank in the bay near Hiron point while heading towards Noapara, Jessore.

The vessel was loaded with 100 tons of coal from the mother vessel in Mongla around 9:15am, he added.

Fourteen crew of the vessel were rescued by the vessels passing through the area after the incident.
