‘Visionary steps taken for health sector’
16 March 2016, Nirapad News: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim Tuesday said the government has taken extremely important steps for the development of health sector. “Visionary programs are taken in all sectors, including the health, under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership. However, the success of the programmes largely depends on the continuity of the leadership,” he said as the chief guest at a discussion on midwifery in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Mohammad Nasim said midwives and nurses have a big role in healing of people’s physical and mental health. “When a nurse offers her sincere care to a patient, half of the ailment of the patient is cured automatically,” he said pointing to the importance of quality care by nurses. Nasim also said that Nursisng is more than a job, it is a community service. He also added ‘good behavior’ should be the key to success in nursing and midwifery professions. He said mass awareness should be created about the service available from the trained midwives during pregnancy and child delivery. The health minister reiterated government’s decision to appoint 3,000 well-trained midwives across the country and said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given a 2nd class job status for nurses and she would also accord the status for midwives as well.
Among others, Dr Habib-A-Millat, MP, Director General of the Directorate General of Family Planning Mohammad Wahid Hossain, Director of the Department of Nursing Services Nilufar Farhad and artist Monira Yusuf Memi also spoke at the roundtable, co-hosted by the Daily Prothom Alo and the UN Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA). On a separate occasion, UNFPA Representative to Bangladesh Argentina Matavel Piccin made a courtesy call to Mohammad Nasim at his Secretariat office here. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek and senior officials were present.
