Water distribution of Teesta River finalized: Minister Anisul Islam
6 March 2015, Nirapad News: Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud on Friday said the water distribution ratio of Teesta River has been finalized already.
“The water distribution ratio of Teesta River has finalized and we are very much hopeful to settle the issues of Teesta water sharing through understanding between the countries,” he said.
He said to the press at an inaugural session on the 5th International conference on Water and Flood Management started on Friday morning at BRAC Centre Inn in city’s Gulshan area.
Assuring to disclose the distribution ratio later, the minister said, “India has assured us in several official letters that no treaty will be made that could hamper the normal life of Bangladeshi people.”
Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) organized the conference to discuss the problems and issues on advance knowledge in water and flood management in order to promote sustainable development.
Representatives from different countries including Netherlands, Japan, Iran, Nepal, India, and the USA are participating the three day-long conference where a total of 66 essays will be presented at several sessions.
BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Khaleda Ekram, Prof Dr Abul Fazal M Saleh also spoke with Director of the Institute of Water and Flood Management Prof G M Tarekul Islam in the chair.
