Water vessel workers begin strike
21 April 2016, Nirapad News: Bangladesh River Vessels Workers Federation has begun countrywide indefinite strike from the wee hours of Thursday (April 21) to press home their demand of a minimum wage of Tk 11,000 and stopping mugging at launch ghats.
The water vessels workers began the strike at Sadarghat in city from 12:01am.
No water vessels left Sadarghat for the southern region of the country.
Confirming the matter, Federation’s president Shah Alam Bhuiyan told banglanews that the strike will be continued till the demands are met.
“No water vessels left for Barisal, Chandpur or other route. However, the launches that left Barisal, Patuakhali and other places will join after reaching here in Dhaka,” he added.
