WorldFish launches new application for shrimp farmers
28 January 2015, Nirapad News: WorldFish has launched a new application for shrimp farmers to manage traceability.
The USAID-funded Aquaculture for Income and Nutrition (AIN) project was launched on Wednesday at a city hotel. WorldFish will implement the pilot project with SourceTrace to introduce a new technology for shrimp farmers in the country’s southern part.
The app, eServices Everywhere (ESE™) of SourceTrace, can process and analyse data from all aspects of shrimp farming to offer traceability details throughout the production process, from hatchery to harvest. This new app will transform the critical work of traceability for shrimp farmers and will make the process faster, easier and more efficient.
The objective of the project is to get real life experience with SourceTrace’s ESE™ platform to test its feasibility and effectiveness in establishing a digital traceability system.
Besides, it will help get firsthand feedback from farmers, other shrimp value chain actors and field staff, and identify improvement opportunities for a future larger scale rollout.
The pilot project will be conducted for five months from January-May 2016. A total of 300-500 farmers will be covered under the project, which aims to improve household income and nutrition and create employment opportunities through investments in aquaculture, including fish production.
