Emergency meeting on lockdown begins

The government is set to impose a nationwide lockdown for a week from next Monday as the deadly coronavirus infection situation continues to deteriorate. Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam sat in an emergency meeting to decide on the timing of the lockdown and the strategy for its implementation.

The meeting started at 4.00pm on Saturday virtually with Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to the Prime Minister, in the chair, said Mahmud Ibn Qasim, private secretary of the cabinet secretary.

Senior secretaries and secretaries of all ministries and departments were also joined in the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the three forces, Inspector General of Police, director general of BGB, director general of Ansar and the heads of four intelligence agencies.
