Country’s largest COVID-19 hospital launched in Mohakhali

Country’s largest COVID-19 dedicated hospital, housed at Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) kitchen market, at Mohakhali in Dhaka has been launched amid the growing demands of ICU supports for the virus-infected patients.

Health Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the hospital at 12:30pm on Sunday.

Operated under the supervision of Bangladesh Army, some 150 physicians, 200 nurses and 300 health workers have been given appointment currently in the facility to serve the patients. They all are members of Army, Navy and Air Force.

Later, general physician will also be appointed in the hospital having 100 intensive care units (ICUs) and 112 high dependency units (HDUs) for COVID-19 patients, said a source in the hospital.

The hospital is comprised of 1,80,560 square feet area.

The hospital director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin earlier said the kitchen market has so far been used for coronavirus isolation centre and coronavirus testing lab for the people going abroad. From now on coronavirus isolation centre and coronavirus testing lab will continue to operate separately.
