The High Court (HC) on Sunday removed all the legal bars to hold election of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
A High Court division virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir passed the order, discharging a rule issued earlier in this regard.
Advocates Shah Monjurul Hoque and Imtiaz Mainul Islam argued for FBCCI, while Advocates Khurshid Alam Khan and HM Sanjid Siddiqui moved a petition filed to halt the election process.
The High Court on April 20 issued the rule asking authorities concerned to explain why its inaction in stopping the FBCCI election process shall not be declared illegal and why Ministry of Commerce’s April 7 notice to keep the election process going, shall not be declared unlawful.
One Md Amir Uddin Bipu had filed a writ petition to stop the holding of election amid the ongoing pandemic situation.
“The court discharged the rule, clearing way to hold the election on fixed date,” Advocate Imtiaz Mainul Islam said.
