67 Covid deaths, 3,057 fresh cases

With the deaths of 67 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Saturday, Bangladesh’s Covid-19 death count now stands at 13,466.

It is the highest daily death counts in the last 48 days. Earlier on May 2, 69 Covid patients died.

On Friday, country saw 54 deaths and 3,883 cases from the virus.

During this timeline, 3,057 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 8,48,027.

Health authorities also reported 1,725 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,80,146, according to data released by the government.

Of the newly deceased persons, 34 were male and 33 female. Of them, 14 died in Dhaka division, 11 in Chittagong, eight each in Rajshahi and Rangpur, 24 in Khulna, one each in Sylhet and Mymensingh.

In the last 24 hours, 528 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 16,964 samples.

The infection rate is 18.02 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.45 per cent.

So far, the recovery rate is 92 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.59 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 3,868,348 people globally and infected 17,86,59,524 while 16,31,77,047 made recovery as of today afternoon.
