The government has started administering Pfizer vaccine in three centres in the capital.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital, Sheikh Russel National Gastroliver Institute and Hospital and Kurmitola General Hospital are administering the vaccine dose.
A total of 120 people are able to receive the vaccine today at each centre.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed inaugurated the vaccination programme at the university’s convention centre at 9:45 am on Monday.
At the same time, Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute and Hospital and Kurmitola General Hospital started the vaccination at their respective centres.
Those who will receive the vaccine, will be kept under observation for seven to ten days.
Over 1 lakh doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Bangladesh as part of the global vaccine initiative ‘COVAX’ on May 31.
The Directorate General of Drug Administration approved the emergency use of Pfizer vaccine on May 27.
Meanwhile, the government has also started administering Chinese Sinopharm vaccine across the country.
