Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has declined to make any statement or reply to the allegations raised against him by former DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday.

In a writted statement sent to media on Tuesday, DSCC’s public relations officer Md Abu Naser said the matter is sub-judice. It is now related to the honourable court and Anti-Corruption Commission. “Mayor Taposh felt that it was unnecessary to make any comments on the matter which is sub-judice.”

On the other hand, Sayeed Khokon alleged at the press conference that former DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon that incumbent DSCC mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh persuaded the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to harass him.

“To cover up his failures, Taposh has resorted to propaganda against me,” Khokon said.

Earlier, on Monday, a Dhaka court ordered to freeze eight bank accounts — three of Khokon’s business ventures, one of his mother Fatema Hanif, two of his wife Farhana Alam and two of his sister Shahana Hanif — in response to ACC’s plea.

Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge KM Imrul Kayes delivered the order.

At the press briefing, Khokon warned that he would go for the legal battle and also would lead Dhaka dwellers to wage another movement against corruption of Taposh, if necessary.

He further said his family members were not against the ACC investigation.

“Dhaka dwellers know well how many votes you [Taposh] got to become DSCC mayor. You have even imposed surcharge on burial of dead body,” Khokon said.
