50 pc people to be vaccinated by next December: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said it would be possible to vaccinate about 50 per cent of the country’s population by next December.

In addition, 70 to 80 percent of people are likely to be vaccinated between March and April next year, he added.

Zahid Maleque made this comment at programme held at Shuvro Center in Garpara area of Manikganj Sadar on Saturday.

Earlier, the minister exchanged greetings with the leaders of 176 puja mandap committees and provides grants in Manikganj Sadar and Saturia upazilas on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Health Minister in his speech said, “Educational institutions have reopened. Vaccination of students aged 12 to 18 will be started soon.”

He further said, “You will enjoy the upcoming Durga Puja, but you will abide by the rules and regulations. Coronavirus has not left yet. When we go to have fun, we have to make sure that we do not get infected again.”

Zahid Maleque called upon the people to follow the rules of worship and pray for the welfare of the country.

Terming Coronavirus as a contagious disease the minister said, “Many people in the country were affected by Coronavirus. We did not see such a pandemic has not come in a hundred years. Around 50 lakh people have died worldwide.”

“At this time I had to work as the country’s health minister with a new challenge. Coronavirus is a new virus, its movement is new. In such a situation, we are tackling difficult challenges from the beginning under the direction of the Prime Minister.”
