DCs asked not to allow social functions including weddings: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said all kinds of social functions including wedding ceremonies must be stopped which fall under the purview of 11-point restrictions in the wake of spread of Covid-19 infections.

He was talking to journalists during a briefing following a meeting with deputy commissioners (DCs) at the DCs’ Conference in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

The Health Miister said different types of social functions including wedding ceremonies will remain closed from now on. “We have mentioned it during our meeting with the DCs.”

“Besides, since that screening has been going on at the landports, seaports and airports in the country, we told them to keep vigilence so that none can show negligence there in their duties. I also told them about quarantine. We requested them to maintain quarantine properly,” he said.

Referring to drug abuse in the country, Zahid Maleque said, “Drug abuse has increased manifold in Bangladesh. Now, drugs are found everywhere. It raises health risks. Different types of drugs are coming to Bangladesh from abroad. I asked the DCs to strengthen vigilance on sale and use of drugs like Yaba and ICE.
