5 brothers killed in Cox’s Bazar crash, driver detained

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on Friday arrested the driver of the pickup van that killed five brothers at Chakoria in Cox’s Bazar.

Shahidul Islam alias Saiful was arrested from the capital’s Mohammadpur area.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, RAB’s law and media wing chief confirmed the development.

Five brothers— Dr Anupam Sushil, 47, Nirupam Sushil, 45, Dipak Sushil, 40, Champak Sushil, 30, and Swaran Sushil, 24—were killed in a hit-and-run on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway at around 5:30am on Tuesday.

Suresh Chandra Sushil, father of the deceased, died 10 days ago and his all the seven sons and two daughters went to a temple for worshipping early in the morning.

After the worshipping, all the nine siblings had been returning home and a Cox’s Bazar-bound pick-up van hit them while crossing the road at about 5:00am, leaving the seven brothers injured. Five of the succumbed to their injuries later.
