At least five people, including pedestrians, have been killed in an accident on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway at Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district.
The accident took place at Bachamara area around 7:30pm on Saturday that also left four others injured.
The deceased were identified as Khalil Matubbor, 70, Mostafa Shikder, 50, Rokeya Begum, 40, Liton Sharif, 40, and Mofazzal Hossain, 55.
Quoting eye witnesses, police said a private car was going in the wrong direction after taking oil from Paschor Petrol Pump at Bachmara area.
Suddenly, a Gopalganj-bound ‘Grameen Paribahan’ bus hit the car.
The locals rushed to the spot to rescue those in the car but another bus of ‘Imad Paribahan’ ran over them, leaving three pedestrians and a private car passenger dead on the spot.
Critically injured one succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Injured four were admitted to a local hospital, said Shibchar Highway Police Station OC Gazi Shakhawat Hossain.
