At least three workers were killed and two others injured as a CNG-run auto rickshaw collided head-on with a truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Boishamura area under Sarail upazila of the district early this morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Miah, 35, Mahfuz Miah, 32, and Amzad, 30. All of them were brick kiln workers and residents of Shahbajpur village of the upazila.
When the auto rickshaw carrying the three workers reached the Boishamura area, the vehicle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction at around 5:30am, leaving them dead on the spot and injuring two others, said Khatihata Highway Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Shahjalal Alam.
The injured were taken to Brahmanbaria Zila Sadar Hospital, the OC added.
The auto rickshaw and the truck were seized.
