Journalist Habibur Rahman dies in motorcycle crash in city

Senior Reporter of Bengali daily ‘Dainik Samayer Alo’ M Habibur Rahman died in a motorbike accident in city’s Hatirjheel area here early today.

After the accident at 2:30 am on Wednesday, he was taken to the the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor announced him dead at 3:00am.

The body has been kept at the DMCH for autopsy.

Hatirjheel Thana police has recovered the motorcycle from the spot.

Habibur, believed to be 40, was also former organizing secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

The motorcycle carrying Habibur rammed into a roadside island in Hatirjheel mosque area at 2:30am last night after he lost control over the vehicle, said Enamul Huq, Sub-Inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station.

After being informed, Executive Editor of the newspaper Dainik Samayer Alo Harun-Ar Rashid and his other colleagues immediately rushed to the hospital at night.

After completing post graduation degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University, Habibur worked for different mass media as he was an Awami League beat reporter of the Dainik Samayer Alo.
