Primary schools across Bangladesh will reopen for in-person classes next month, says the Primary and Mass Education Ministry.
“Classes will resume from March 1. An official announcement will be made on Sunday,” the ministry’s sources said on Friday.
On Thursday, Education Minister Dipu Moni announced that all educational institutions, except primary schools, would be able to resume in-person classes for fully vaccinated students from February 22.
The announcement came following the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and recommendation of the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 the previous day.
The shutdown was later extended to February 20.
After a 17-month Covid-19-induced closure, students in Bangladesh returned to classrooms on September 12 last year.
The government had shut educational institutions on March 17, 2020, after the country reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8. The closure was extended several times.
