A female school teacher and a second-grader were killed as a truck rammed them on a school premises at Shivalaya upazila in Manikganj district on Monday.
Deceased Fatema Akter, was an assistant teacher of Abdul Alim Memorial School, a resident of Bhakla village, and the school student Jarin Tasnim, 7, daughter of Shahidul Islam of Tepra village in the upazila.
Locals said a truck smashed the duo on the school playground at about 10:00 am, leaving Tasnim dead on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were admitted to Shivalaya Upazila Health Complex where the school teacher succumbed to her injuries.
It was learnt that the school authority rented the school playground to NDE Contraction Company for parking one of their truck. When the driver of the contraction truck started the vehicle this morning, it soon run over them as the driver lost control over the steering.
Later, locals detained the truck driver but the principal and other teachers of the school managed to flee.
Confirming the matter, Shivlay Police Station officer in-charge Mohammad Shahin said, “Legal action is under process.”
