A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered to send Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam to jail rejecting remand prayer in a case filed for allegedly taking pictures of the government documents at Secretariat.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order.
The court also set Thursday (May 20) for hearing on her bail plea.
Shahbag Police Station inspector Arifur Rahman filed a petition seeking five-day remand for the journalist after producing her this morning.
Health Ministry’s deputy secretary Shibbir Ahmed Osmani lodged the case ( No-16) on Monday night against Rozina Islam under Official Secrets Act.
The senior journalist went to the ministry office in the Secretariat on Monday afternoon to perform her professional duties. The ministry officials detained her in a room at about 3pm for stealing some official documents and taking pictures of them without due permission and seized her mobile phone set.
Hours after detention, Rozina was handed over to Shahbagh Police around 8:30 pm.
