13 JCD men remanded over clash at Press Club

A court in Dhaka on Monday placed 13 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on a five-day remand each in a case filed over Sunday’s clash with police near the Jatiya Press Club.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order.

The accused are: Monjurul Al Riad, Ataur Rahman, Masud Rana, Shafiqul Islam, Shaheraj, Ahsan Habib Raju, Kabir Hossain, Monwar Islam, Arful Haque Anisur Rahman, Abu Hayat M Julfiqar, Atiq Morshed and Ramzan.

Earlier, Shahbagh police SI M Abdullah, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with 10 days’ remand prayers for each.

Police on Sunday midnight filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against 300 people, including 47 leaders and activists of BNP and Chhatra Dal, in connection with Sunday’s clash between police and a group of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders and activists in front of the Press Club.

So far, 13 activists have been shown arrested.

At lest 50 people, including police members, were injured in a clash whien Chhatra Dal men were staging a demonstration in front of the press club to protest the revocation of BNP Founder Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry award and the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.
