Three persons were arrested on Sunday in connection with the gang rape of a female tourist in Cox’s Bazar making her husband and child hostage.
The arrested were Rezaul Karim and Mehedi Hasan of village Dakkhin Baharchhara of Cox’s Bazar city, Mamunur Rashid of village Ulubonia in Dulhazara union under Chakaria upazila. Earlier, Zia Guest Inn manager Reazuddin Choton was arrested. With them, four have so far been arrested in the case.
Addressing a press briefing early Sunday afternoon, Chattogram Tourist Police’s DIG Moslem Uddin said the accused were questioned after the arrest. But, mastermind Ashique has still remained beyond touchable.
Ashique is an accused in a number of cases including mugging and possessing drugs.
Ashiq was released on bail from jail four months ago.
The woman who was raped twice said she came to Cox’s Bazar from Jatrabari in Dhaka along with her husband and eight-month-old son on Wednesday afternoon (December 22). They got into a hotel at Holiday Intersection in the city. Then they went to Laboni Point of the sea beach in the afternoon where an altercation between her husband and a youth took place over a silly matter.
In sequel to it, several youths dragged her husband and son away by an auto-rickshaw from in front of Parjatan Golf Field in the evening and three others dragged her away by another autorickshaw.
The woman was taken to ‘Zia Guest Inn’ hotel where the youths raped her one after another after taking Yaba pills. Then, they left the hotel room threatening her that her husband and son would be killed if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
A case was filed on December 23 in connection with the incident.
The briefing was attended by Tourist Police, Cox’s Bazar Zone’s police super Md Zillur Rahman ad additional police super Md Mohiuddin Ahmed.
Five more persons including accused Mehedi Hasan Babu have been arrested in a case filed over the gang rape of a housewife in Cox’s Bazar making hostage her husband and child.
Of the five, two are FIR-listed accused.
Cox’s Bazar tourist police’s SP Md Zillur Rahman confirmed this on Sunday.
But, Ashiqul Islam Ashiq, the main culprit of the incident, is still absconding. He is an accused in a number of cases including mugging and possessing drugs.
