Hefazat-e-Islam has staged a demonstration at the north gate of the national mosque Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka to protest the killing of its party leaders and activists during the protest against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.

Joining the protest programme Hefazat-e-Islam joint secretary general Maulana Mamunul Haque said, “Hefazat-e-Islam is observing peaceful programme across the country. If anyone thinks that it is possible to calm down Hefazat-e-Islam with the barrel of a gun, I will tell them that you are living in a fool’s paradise.”

He further said, “I want to tell the world human rights activists, intelligence agencies that do the proper investigation. Our activists in police custody have been attacked. We demand the arrest of the attackers.”

He said the knives stored in the madrasa were used for slaughtering sacrificial animals.

“There is nothing to do politics with this. The media needs to be more responsible. It is their responsibility to highlight the relevant facts. Some Hefazat activists may have mistakenly attacked the journalists. We centrally apologize for this,” added Mamunul Haque.
