A low-pressure is likely to form over East Central Bay of Bengal by Saturday afternoon which will gradually intensify into a super cyclonic storm called ‘Yash.’
The super cyclone may cross Satkhira-Khulna coasts of Bangladesh by May 26 after through Odisha and West Bengal coasts of India, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday.
Sea conditions will remain rough in the Bay of Bengal from May 21 onward. Fishermen have also been warned against venturing into the sea from May 21 onward. Those at sea are advised to return to safety before May 23.
According to the weather experts at the BMD, the mid-range cyclone will cross the Satkhira-Khulna coasts with a wind speed of 120km to 150km per hour.
However, they have cautioned that the cyclone ‘Yash’–though less powerful and catastrophic–may cause widespread damage when it will cross Satkhira-Khulna coast with tidal surges up to 10 feet to 12 feet high.
The super cyclone is likely to enter through the Sunderbans and bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the South Bengal. Through West Bengal the cyclone ‘Yash’ is likely to enter Bangladesh.
According to different weather forecasting centres of the world, the Super Cyclone ‘Yash’ is likely to enter Bangladesh from the West Bengal coast sometime between the midnight of May 25 and the evening of May 26. The cyclone will hit the Satkhira-Khulna coast.
