Housewife gang raped keeping husband, son hostage in Cox’s Bazar

A housewife has allegedly been gang raped while visiting Cox’s Bazar along with her husband and eight-month-old child.

She was gang raped after being dragged from Laboni Point of Cox’s Bazar city by an autorickshaw. Then the rapists gang raped her twice threatening to kill her husband and son.

Being informed, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-15 went to ‘Zia Guest Inn’ hotel around 1:30am on Thursday and rescued the victim. The hotel manager was detained for questioning in connection with the incident.

She is currently undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said RAB-15 Commander Major Mehedi Hasan.

The victim told journalists that she came to Cox’s Bazar from Jatrabari with her husband and son on Wednesday morning. They got into a hotel at Holiday Intersection in the city. From there, they went Laboni Point of the sea beach in the afternoon where an altercation between her husband and a youth over a silly matter. In sequel to it, several youths went there and dragged her husband and eight-month old son away by an auto-rickshaw from in front of Parjatan Golf Field in the evening and three others dragged her away by another autorickshaw.

She alleged that afterward she was taken to ‘Zia Guest Inn’ hotel where the youths raped her one after another after taking yaba pills. Then they left the hotel room threatening her that her husband and son would be murdered if she disclosed the matter to anyone else.

The woman further said she managed to open the doors of the room with the help of a youth on the second floor of ‘Zia Guest Inn.’ Then she phoned at 999. Responding to the call, police advised her to file a general diary (GD). With the help of another person, she made a phone call to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-15. Then RAB personnel came and rescued her, while her husband and son were rescued from the Parjatan Golf Field area.

The victim’s husband lamented that ‘they did such a major harm to my wife just due to an altercation with me. Since this city is unknown to us, we could not trace the place and miscreants.’

He said the miscreants did not return his wife though he repeatedly pleaded to them even touching their feet. “We came here to spend a holiday after receiving salary. But, my wife’s condition is not well. I’m very worried about her.”

Cox’s Bazar RAB-15’s CPC Commander Maj Mehedi Hasan said the victim housewife and her husband and son were rescued after information was received. “Now, we are investigating the matter. Two, out of three, have so far been identified. Drives are going on to nab the criminals.”

Cox’s Bazar RAB-15’s Lt Col Khairul Islam Sarker said those who were involved in the incident would received severe punishment. “Investigation is going on over the matter. A case is also under process.”

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias said the victim was being treated at the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital.
